Wells Fargo Propel American Express

The Wells Fargo Propel American Express is one of the best options out there for consumers who like to do the bulk of their spending with their credit card. This card offers cardholders 30,000 bonus points if they spend $3,000 in the first three months. That’s the equivalent of $300!

Cardholders earn points for each transaction, but some transactions, like eating out or travel, earn 3x points.

There’s no annual fee, and Wells Fargo offers 0% APR for the first twelve months. After that, they offer a 14.24% to 26.74% variable APR.

This card is available to consumers with excellent credit.

Chase Sapphire Preferred

The Chase Sapphire Preferred card is a travel rewards card. Cardholders earn rewards with each purchase that can be redeemed for airline travel and hotels.

Chase offers new cardholders 50,000 bonus points when they spend $4,000 within the first three months of account opening. That equals $625 toward travel. Cardholders also earn 2x points on travel and dining and one point per dollar on all other purchases.

Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Priority

For those who love to travel, but don’t love to spend a ton of money or who enjoy Southwest’s quirky flight attendants, this is the card for you.

The Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards card offers new cardholders 40,000 bonus points when they spend $1,000 in the first three months. They also give cardholders 7,500-anniversary points each year, a $75 annual travel credit, and four upgraded bookings per year.

Capital One Savor

Love to eat out? Zagat enthusiast? The Capital One Savor card will work great for you.

Capital One offers a one-time $500 cash bonus if you spend $3,000 within three months of account opening. Cardholders receive 4% cash back on dining and entertainment purchases, 2% cash back at the grocery store, and 1% cash back on all other purchases.

The Citi American Airlines card is another travel rewards program with great incentives for new cardholders.

US Bank FlexPerks Gold American Express

The US Bank FlexPerks Gold American Express is a great all-around rewards credit card. Points are redeemable for flights, cash back, merchandise, and gift cards, among other things.

This card awards new cardholders with 30,000 enrollment points if they spend $2,000 in the first four months of opening their account. Other perks include TSA PreCheck or Global Entry program reimbursement and no foreign transaction fees.

Cardholders earn triple points at restaurants, double points at gas stations and airlines, and one point per dollar for other purchases.

Credit Card Hacks for Bad Credit

All the credit cards listed above require a good or excellent credit score. Unfortunately, not everyone meets that requirement. For those whose credit falls well below the national average FICO score of 700, there are options for you.

If your FICO score is around 580 or higher, the Capital One Platinum Mastercard is a good option. Capital One provides an initial low credit line, but they increase it after several on-time monthly payments. They don’t charge an annual fee, but interest rates are higher than you would receive for any of the cards listed above.

Can’t qualify for a traditional credit card? Don’t worry, having bad credit is not a life sentence. If you’re looking to rebuild your credit, a secured credit card is a good place to start.

Banks that issue secured credit cards ask for an initial deposit before they’ll give you a card. Your deposit is your initial credit line. As you transition out of a bad credit score, the bank can convert your card to a traditional line of credit.
